Premium inner and outer tie rod ends engineered for 1965-1970 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and full-size cars. These replacement tie rod ends secure the steering linkage, maintaining precise steering geometry and minimizing play that causes wandering or vibration. Designed as direct-fit replacements for both right- and left-hand threads where applicable, they restore factory steering feel and reliability. Built for durability and consistent performance, they help protect other steering components and extend service intervals while being straightforward to install for experienced DIYers or professional technicians.
Features:
- Fits 1965-1970 Chevrolet and GMC full-size cars and trucks (inner and outer tie rod ends, right and left hand threads)
- High-strength steel construction with corrosion-resistant coating for long life
- Restores correct steering alignment and reduces steering play and vibration
- Direct replacement for factory parts — no modification required
- Greaseable design (where applicable) for easier maintenance and extended service life
- Precision-machined ball stud and taper for secure fit and reliable performance
- Ideal for restoration projects and routine steering system maintenance
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side (depending on rust/condition and whether both inner and outer are replaced)
Instructions:
- Prepare vehicle: park on level ground, engage parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel corresponding to the tie rod end being replaced.
- Inspect and note current steering/drag link position: measure the distance from a fixed point on the spindle to a mark on the tie rod or count turns of the tie rod end to preserve alignment settings.
- Loosen the jam nut on the tie rod while it is secure to prevent the inner tie rod from rotating.
- Apply penetrating oil to the tie rod end threads and tapered stud. Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod end puller or pickle fork. Use a hammer sparingly if necessary.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod or adjuster until it is free. Retain any washers or spacers if present.
- Compare new part to the old one to confirm correct thread direction and length. Thread the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same measurement or number of turns recorded earlier.
- Seat the tapered stud into the steering knuckle and tighten the castellated nut or retaining hardware to the manufacturer's specified torque. Install a new cotter pin if required.
- Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end to lock the adjustment in place. If greaseable, attach the grease gun and add grease until the boot seats (do not overfill).
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Perform a preliminary steering check and a short test drive to confirm steering response. Have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure correct toe and prevent premature tire wear.
