Replacement rear shock absorber engineered for GM passenger cars and light-duty models from 1954 through 1996 (Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac and other GM marques). This shock restores dampening control to the rear suspension, reducing bounce, improving handling and braking stability, and extending tire life. Built from durable steel with corrosion-resistant finishes and quality internal valving, it provides reliable, long-lasting performance for restorations, maintenance, or everyday repairs. Designed for straightforward swap-in installation using existing mounting points and hardware, it is an essential component for returning older GM cars to safe, comfortable driving condition.
Features:
  • Fitment: Designed to fit many GM passenger cars and light-duty models from 1954 to 1996 (Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac — confirm application for your specific year/model).
  • Heavy-gauge steel construction with corrosion-resistant finish for longevity.
  • Precision valving and gas/oil damping to reduce rear-end bounce and improve ride control.
  • Direct replacement for worn shocks — restores handling, braking stability, and tire wear.
  • Easy to install using factory mounting points; ideal for restorations and routine maintenance.
  • Includes durable rubber bushings (where applicable) to reduce noise and vibration.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-90 minutes per axle (varies by vehicle and corroded hardware)
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Combination wrenches
  • Penetrating oil (e.g., PB Blaster)
  • Torque wrench
  • Rubber mallet or pry bar (optional)
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface, set parking brake, and chock front wheels.
  2. Loosen rear wheel lug nuts slightly, lift the rear of the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove wheels if needed for access.
  3. Locate the rear shock absorber and inspect mounting hardware and bushings; apply penetrating oil to bolts if corroded and allow to soak.
  4. Support the axle with a secondary jack or jack stand to keep suspension load controlled while removing the shock.
  5. Remove the lower mounting bolt(s) first, then remove the upper mounting nut(s)/bolt(s). Keep any washers or spacers for reuse unless replacing hardware.
  6. Remove the old shock absorber. Compare new shock to old unit for correct length and mounting style.
  7. Install the new shock in the same orientation. Start upper fasteners by hand, then install lower fasteners. Do not fully tighten with the suspension loaded unless specified by vehicle manufacturer.
  8. With vehicle at normal ride height (carefully lower axle to compress suspension to normal position or follow manufacturer instructions), torque upper and lower mounting fasteners to the manufacturer's specification.
  9. Reinstall wheel(s) if removed, lower vehicle to the ground, and torque lug nuts to spec.
  10. Test drive at low speed to verify improved ride and listen for any unusual noises. Re-check fastener torque after first 100 miles.
