This 1967-1972 Chevy / GMC truck lower right front door hinge pillar repair panel restores structural strength and alignment where original hinge pillars have rusted or been damaged. It replaces corroded metal, provides a solid mounting surface for the door hinge, helps secure proper door spacing and sealing, and prevents water intrusion that leads to further corrosion. Built for restoration and direct-fit replacement use, the panel offers durable, reliable service and is straightforward to install for anyone comfortable with basic metalwork and welding.
Features:
- Fits 1967-1972 Chevy and GMC trucks — lower right front door hinge pillar.
- Precision-formed heavy-gauge steel for a factory-correct contour and strength.
- Restores hinge mounting surface to ensure correct door alignment and operation.
- Prevents further rust and water intrusion when installed and sealed properly.
- Designed as a direct replacement for restoration and structural repairs.
- Durable, corrosion-resistant finish-ready surface for priming and painting.
- Installation-ready design reduces fabrication time and simplifies repairs.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1–3 hours (depending on corrosion extent and prep)
Instructions:
- Prepare workspace: disconnect battery, remove interior door trim and hardware as needed. Support the door with a jack or stand to take load off the hinge.
- Remove hinge bolts or cut spot welds as required to access the damaged hinge pillar area. Carefully remove the rusted or damaged metal back to clean, solid metal.
- Clean and prep surrounding metal: grind to bare metal, remove rust, and ensure mating surfaces are flat and true for a tight fit.
- Test-fit the replacement panel. Align hinge mounting points and factory seams, trimming the panel as needed for an accurate fit.
- Clamp the panel in place and tack-weld at multiple points to verify fit and door alignment. Recheck door fit and hinge alignment before final welding.
- Finish-weld the panel using short, staggered stitches to minimize heat distortion. Grind welds smooth and reshape as necessary with hammer and dolly.
- Treat welded areas with a rust inhibitor, apply seam sealer to joints, then prime and paint the repaired area to restore corrosion protection.
- Reinstall hinge hardware, remove supports, and adjust door alignment (gap and latch engagement) as required. Reinstall interior trim and perform a final operation check.
