These parking/emergency brake cable equalizer nuts are precision fasteners designed to secure and properly tension the brake cable equalizer on 1967-1982 Chevrolet Corvette models. They play a critical role in maintaining consistent parking brake engagement and preventing cable loosening or separation. Made for durability and corrosion resistance, they are an ideal direct-replacement part for restorations and routine maintenance, delivering reliable performance and easy installation to keep your Corvette’s parking brake operating as intended.
Features:
- Fits 1967-1982 Chevrolet Corvette
- Precision-machined steel with a corrosion-resistant finish for long-lasting use
- Secures the parking/emergency brake cable equalizer to maintain proper cable tension
- Direct replacement for worn, damaged, or missing equalizer nuts during restoration
- Simple installation with common hand tools — ideal for routine maintenance
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 15-30 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, place wheel chocks, and loosen rear lug nuts slightly if wheel removal is needed.
- Raise the rear of the vehicle with a jack and secure with jack stands (or use a lift). Remove the rear wheel if it improves access to the equalizer.
- Locate the parking/emergency brake cable equalizer where the cable splits or joins. Apply penetrating oil to any corroded hardware and allow to soak if necessary.
- Release tension on the brake cable by lowering the parking brake lever or backing off the adjuster so the equalizer is accessible and hardware is loose.
- Remove the old equalizer nuts using the wrench and pliers as needed. Retain any washers or spacers if present and undamaged.
- Install the new equalizer nuts onto the cable studs, ensuring proper seating and orientation of any washers/spacers.
- Re-tension the cable by adjusting the equalizer until the parking brake engages firmly at the expected pedal/lever travel. Check both sides for equal tension.
- With the vehicle still supported, test the parking brake engagement by attempting to roll the vehicle slowly (use caution). If necessary, fine-tune the adjuster for even and secure engagement.
- Lower the vehicle, reinstall the wheels and torque lug nuts to spec, then perform a final parking brake test on level ground and on a slight incline to confirm reliable operation.
