Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 15-30 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake, and wear appropriate PPE.
- Locate the bellhousing inspection cover on the transmission bellhousing and remove the mounting bolts using the socket and ratchet. Keep bolts for reuse if they are in good condition.
- Remove the old cover and carefully peel away any remaining gasket material or sealant. Clean the mating surface with a scraper or rag until free of debris and oil.
- If the replacement requires a gasket, position a new gasket on the mating surface. If using gasket maker, apply a thin, even bead per the sealant manufacturer's directions.
- Align the new inspection cover over the opening and start the mounting bolts by hand to ensure proper thread engagement.
- Tighten bolts in a crisscross pattern until the cover is evenly seated. If available, tighten to the vehicle manufacturer's bolt torque specification; otherwise, snug bolts evenly without over-tightening.
- Wipe away any excess sealant, inspect the seal for gaps, and lower the vehicle if it was raised. Re-check bolt tightness after a short road/test drive.
