Direct-fit replacement speedometer cable gear sleeve for 1962-1981 Chevrolet Corvette transmissions. This sleeve locates and supports the driven speedometer gear/cable assembly inside the transmission tail housing to restore accurate speedometer readings and reduce premature wear. Made to OEM-style dimensions from hardened, corrosion-resistant steel, the sleeve provides reliable, long-lasting performance — ideal for restorations, maintenance, or repair of cable-driven speedometer systems.

Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1-3 hours (depending on access and experience)
Instructions:
- Safety first: park on a level surface, set the parking brake, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and support the vehicle securely on jack stands.
- Place a drain pan under the transmission and, if required, remove the driveshaft or open the tailhousing access cover to gain access to the speedometer drive area.
- Drain or remove enough transmission fluid to prevent spills when accessing the tailhousing; follow factory guidance for your specific transmission.
- Remove the speedometer drive gear assembly and any retaining bolts or clips holding the sleeve or housing in place. Note orientation and gear placement for reassembly.
- Extract the old sleeve from the tailhousing. Inspect the drive gear, cable, and bore for wear or damage; replace worn components as necessary.
- Clean the bore and apply a light film of assembly grease to the new sleeve. Slide the new sleeve into place, ensuring it seats fully and aligns with the drive gear location.
- Reinstall the speedometer gear/cable assembly and any retaining hardware. Replace any gaskets or seals and torque fasteners to factory specifications (refer to the service manual).
- Reassemble the tailhousing/driveshaft, refill the transmission with specified fluid, reconnect the battery, and lower the vehicle.
- Test drive and verify accurate speedometer operation and check for leaks. Re-check fluid level after the initial run and re-torque hardware if recommended.
