Direct-fit replacement turn signal switch for 1977-1979 Chevrolet Corvette (1979 Early with Bent Lever). This switch restores smooth, positive lever action and reliable electrical contact for turn signals and hazard operation, eliminating intermittent connections and non-canceling behavior. Built for durability and ease of installation, it’s ideal for restorations and routine maintenance to bring original signal performance back to the steering column.
Features:
- Fits 1977-1979 Chevrolet Corvette; includes support for 1979 Early models with the bent lever design. Late 79 had a straight lever.
- Direct-fit replacement for the OEM-style turn signal switch and cancel mechanism.
- Durable metal and high-quality electrical contacts provide reliable long-term operation.
- Restores turn signal, hazard lamp, and self-cancel functions to original performance.
- Easy to install with basic hand tools; perfect for restoration projects or maintenance replacements.
- Replaces worn or intermittent switches to improve safety and road signaling.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-60 minutes
Instructions:
- Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait several minutes to prevent accidental shorts.
- Remove the horn pad/center cap and disconnect the horn lead; keep all fasteners organized.
- Loosen and remove the steering wheel retaining nut; mark the wheel-to-shaft orientation, then remove the steering wheel (use a puller if necessary).
- Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds by removing the mounting screws and separate the halves to expose the switch assembly.
- Document the existing switch wiring and orientation (take photos) and disconnect the wiring harness from the old switch.
- Remove the mounting screws or retaining clip holding the switch to the column and carefully slide the old switch out.
- Install the new switch in the same orientation, ensuring the cancel cam and lever align with the steering column components; secure with the original fasteners.
- Reconnect the wiring harness to the new switch; apply a small amount of dielectric grease to connectors to resist corrosion.
- Reinstall the column shrouds, steering wheel (aligning the marks made earlier), and tighten the steering wheel nut to factory specification.
- Reconnect the battery and test all functions: left/right turn signals, hazard lights, and self-cancel operation. Re-check fasteners and adjust if necessary.
