Instructions:
- Work in a well-ventilated area, away from open flames or sparks. Ensure the engine is off and cool; remove the ignition key. Wear gloves and eye protection.
- If desired as a safety precaution, disconnect the negative battery terminal to reduce the risk of accidental sparks.
- Access the filler neck/overflow hose routing by opening the trunk or lifting the vehicle as needed to reach the underside of the filler neck.
- Loosen the hose clamps securing the existing overflow hose at the filler neck and at the drainage/vent connection. Use pliers or a screwdriver depending on clamp type.
- Carefully remove the old hose. If it’s seized, cut it off with a utility knife or hose cutter and clean the fittings with a shop rag to remove debris and corrosion.
- Slide new hose clamps onto the replacement hose, then position the hose over the filler neck outlet and the vent/drain fitting, ensuring proper OEM routing and clearance from moving or hot components.
- Seat the hose fully on both fittings, position clamps about 1/4" from hose ends, and tighten snugly. Avoid over-tightening which can damage the hose.
- Inspect the routing to ensure it isn’t kinked and has adequate clearance from exhaust or suspension components. Reconnect the battery if it was disconnected.
- Lower the vehicle (if raised) and test by adding a small amount of fuel or running a visual inspection while tipping the filler neck area to confirm no leaks or seepage.
- Re-check clamp tightness after a short test drive and periodically during routine maintenance.
