Chrome replacement oil dipstick and tube engineered for 1955–1979 Chevrolet small block V8 engines (283/305/327/350/400). This polished assembly restores factory appearance while providing reliable oil level measurement and a corrosion-resistant passage for the dipstick. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for worn, bent, or pitted tubes, the chrome finish improves engine-bay aesthetics and resists rust for long-term durability. The kit ensures proper sealing at the block and a smooth insertion path for accurate, repeatable readings — ideal for restorations, performance builds, or routine maintenance.
Features:
  • Fits 1955-1979 Chevrolet Small Block V8 engines: 283, 305, 327, 350, and 400.
  • High-quality chrome-plated steel tube and polished dipstick for improved engine-bay appearance.
  • Direct-fit replacement: restores proper oil level access and alignment with factory mounting points.
  • Corrosion-resistant finish prevents rust and pitting common to older stock tubes.
  • Easy to install with basic hand tools; ideal for restoration, repair, or performance upgrades.
  • Durable construction resists bending and wear for reliable, long-term use.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Socket set or wrench
  • Pliers
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Rubber mallet (optional)
  • Engine oil drain pan (if removing dipstick with oil present)
  • Shop rags
Instructions:
  1. Warm the engine slightly (not hot) or work in a warm area to make the old tube more pliable; disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
  2. Locate the existing dipstick tube and remove any retaining bolts or brackets securing it to the block or valley cover.
  3. If applicable, remove the dipstick from the tube and set aside. Place an oil drain pan under the engine if oil may drip from the tube.
  4. Carefully twist and pull the old tube out from the block. Use pliers or a flathead screwdriver to break old sealant if necessary. A rubber mallet can help tap it free from the block boss.
  5. Clean the block boss and inspect the mounting hole for damage or debris. Wipe away oil and old gasket/sealer residue with shop rags.
  6. Apply a thin bead of high-temperature RTV or appropriate thread/sealant at the block insertion end if recommended, or install the supplied o-ring/bushing if included.
  7. Insert the new chrome tube into the block at the correct angle, pushing firmly until fully seated. Align the tube so the mounting flange lines up with the bolt hole.
  8. Secure the tube with the original or provided retaining bolt and any bracket hardware. Torque lightly to avoid crushing or deforming the tube.
  9. Reinsert the dipstick into the tube and verify it slides smoothly and seats correctly. Start the engine briefly and check for oil leaks around the block insertion point and mounting flange.
  10. Re-tighten hardware if necessary, wipe away any spilled oil, and reconnect the battery.
