Chrome-plated valve covers designed for 1965–1981 GM cars equipped with 396 and 454 big block V8s and power brake setups. These covers protect the valve train, help contain oil, and provide extra clearance required for vehicles with power brake boosters. Constructed for long-lasting appearance and reliable sealing, they are a direct-fit replacement that restores classic engine bay styling while reducing leaks and oil splash.
Features:
  • Fits 1965–1981 GM cars with 396 and 454 big block V8 engines and power brake setups.
  • Durable stamped-steel construction with mirror chrome plating for corrosion resistance and show-quality appearance.
  • Integrated oil drippers direct excess oil away from the rocker area to reduce pooling and keep the engine bay cleaner.
  • Raised/offset profile provides required clearance for power brake boosters and related hardware.
  • Direct bolt-on replacement for OE valve covers; ideal for restoration or performance engine builds.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Torque wrench (ft-lb)
  • Screwdrivers
  • Gasket scraper or razor
  • Brake cleaner or shop solvent
  • Shop rags
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface, allow engine to cool and disconnect the negative battery cable if desired for safety.
  2. Remove any components or hoses that obstruct access to the valve covers (PCV hoses, breather hoses, etc.).
  3. Loosen and remove the existing valve cover bolts, then remove the old valve covers. Note bolt locations if lengths differ.
  4. Carefully remove old gaskets and clean the valve cover mating surfaces on the head; scrape old gasket material and solvent-clean the area until dry and oil-free.
  5. Inspect rocker arm and valve-train area for leaks or damage and replace any worn components before installing the new covers.
  6. Place new valve cover gaskets (or gasket set included/required) into the valve covers or onto the head as recommended. If the kit includes rubber grommets or washers, install them on the bolt holes.
  7. If equipped, install the supplied oil dripper tubes into the valve cover boss or port and orient them so oil drains back into the head or valley—do not route them where oil can contact exhaust components.
  8. Lower the valve cover onto the head and thread bolts finger-tight. Tighten bolts in a criss-cross pattern incrementally to evenly seat the gasket.
  9. Torque bolts to a light, even specification (typical valve cover bolt torque is in the 8–12 ft·lb range—refer to your engine’s service manual for exact spec).
  10. Reconnect any hoses, lines, or components removed earlier (PCV, breathers, etc.), verify proper clearance to power brake booster and linkage, and reconnect the battery if disconnected.
  11. Start the engine and inspect for leaks around the new covers. Re-torque bolts after a short run if necessary and recheck after the engine has cooled.
