A direct-fit transmission tunnel plate designed for 1968-1972 Chevrolet Chevelle and El Camino models equipped with a console and four-speed transmission. This plate covers and protects the tunnel opening, provides a solid mounting surface for the shifter boot and console, reduces carpet wear and road noise, and restores a finished factory appearance. Made from heavy-gauge metal with a durable finish, it improves shifter alignment and resists corrosion for long-lasting reliability while being simple to install during a restoration or replacement project.

Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, set parking brake, and disconnect the battery if working near electrical components.
- Remove the console: detach trim pieces, remove fasteners, and disconnect any electrical connectors to clear access to the transmission tunnel.
- If present, remove the old tunnel plate or carpet insert and clean the tunnel surface of dirt, adhesive, and rust.
- Test-fit the new tunnel plate over the shifter area and align the shifter opening and any factory mounting points.
- Mark mounting hole locations if necessary. Use existing factory holes when available or select appropriate fasteners for secure mounting.
- Secure the plate in place using factory hardware or suitable screws/bolts. Do not overtighten—ensure plate sits flush and the shifter moves freely.
- Reinstall shifter boot and console, reconnect electrical connectors, and verify trim panels align correctly.
- Operate the shifter through all gears to confirm smooth movement and clearance, then torque fasteners to spec and perform a final inspection.
