Three-piece automatic shifter cable installation kit for 1968-1972 Chevrolet Camaro, Chevelle and El Camino. Designed to replace worn or damaged linkages and restore precise, factory-style shifting, this kit provides the necessary cables, brackets and hardware to secure and align the transmission-to-shifter connection. Built for durability and ease of installation, the assembly reduces play and vibration for smoother gear engagement and long-term reliability — ideal for restorations and performance refreshes.
Features:
- Fitment: 1968-1972 Chevrolet Camaro, Chevelle and El Camino (automatic transmission models).
- Three-piece design for easier routing and replacement of worn sections without altering original mounting points.
- Durable, corrosion-resistant components and OEM-style end fittings for reliable long-term performance.
- Restores precise shift feel by reducing cable play and vibration between the shifter and transmission.
- Includes mounting brackets, clips and hardware required for a complete installation on original-style applications.
- Easy-to-follow install compatible with restoration projects and routine maintenance — no custom fabrication required.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 1-2 hours
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, set parking brake, chock wheels and disconnect the battery as a safety precaution.
- Raise and securely support the vehicle if needed to access the transmission cable routing; remove any interior trim or console pieces to access the shifter end.
- Note the routing and attachment points of the old cable. Mark or photograph connections to aid reassembly.
- Disconnect the old cable from the shifter and from the transmission shift lever, and remove any retaining clips or brackets.
- Compare new cable pieces to the originals and assemble the three-piece kit per supplied orientation. Route the new cable along the original path, avoiding sharp edges and heat sources.
- Attach the cable to the transmission shift lever using the provided end fittings and secure with retaining clips and brackets. Reattach and adjust any chassis mounting points.
- Connect the shifter end to the interior lever, reassemble console/trim as needed, and snug all fasteners. Leave final adjustment slightly loose for alignment.
- With vehicle safely supported and wheels chocked, verify gear selection through the shifter (P–R–N–D–L) and adjust cable tension so each gear engages cleanly and the indicator lines up with detents.
- Tighten all hardware to recommended torque, recheck operation, lower vehicle, reconnect battery, and perform a final road test to confirm smooth, accurate shifting.
