Instructions:
- Remove the exterior steel trim carefully: loosen fasteners or gently pry with a plastic trim tool to avoid damaging the trim or paint. Keep fasteners and clips organized.
- Pull out the old weatherstrip seal completely. Use a utility knife to cut through stubborn sections, and a plastic tool to pry out the remaining material.
- Thoroughly clean the windshield flange and surrounding channel. Remove all old adhesive, dirt and corrosion with solvent and a lint-free cloth; allow to dry.
- Test-fit the new seal on the flange to confirm orientation and length. Trim the seal ends if necessary for a precise fit (cut small amounts and re-check).
- If recommended or desired for extra holding strength, apply a thin bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the flange or the inside of the seal per the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
- Seat the new seal onto the flange, pressing evenly along the entire perimeter. Make sure the trim groove is aligned and fully engaged where the steel trim will sit.
- Reinstall the exterior steel trim, aligning clips and fasteners; tighten securely but avoid over-torquing which can deform the seal or trim.
- If adhesive was used, allow recommended cure time before exposing to water (typically 24 hours).
- Inspect the installed seal for gaps, and perform a water test (hose or light spray) to confirm there are no leaks.
