Instructions:
- Remove the old weatherstrip: carefully peel back the old seal and use a flat-blade screwdriver or trim tool to detach any clips or adhesive residue.
- Clean the mounting surface: wipe the channel and surrounding flange thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or an adhesive cleaner to remove dirt, grease, and old adhesive. Allow to dry.
- Test-fit the new seal: align the new weatherstrip around the liftgate to confirm fit and locate corners or join points before applying adhesive.
- Apply adhesive if needed: if the weatherstrip is adhesive-backed or the vehicle requires glue, apply a thin, even bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the channel as directed by the adhesive manufacturer.
- Install the seal: beginning at one end, press the weatherstrip into the channel or onto the flange, ensuring the profile seats completely and evenly. For push-in styles, press firmly until clips or the bulb fully engage.
- Secure corners and joints: use light pressure or masking tape to hold the seal in place at corners and overlap points while adhesive sets.
- Trim excess: if required, trim any excess material with a utility knife for a neat finish and ensure both ends meet without gaps.
- Cure and test: allow adhesive to cure per instructions (typically 1–24 hours). Close the liftgate and check for even contact, then test for leaks with a light water spray and inspect for wind noise while driving.
