Instructions:
- Secure vehicle on level ground, chock wheels, raise vehicle and support with jack stands; remove wheel for access.
- If replacing an existing nut, remove the dust cap and cotter pin, then loosen and remove the old castle nut.
- Clean the ball joint stud and control arm threads; apply light anti-seize if desired and recommended.
- Thread the new castle nut onto the ball joint stud by hand until snug.
- Use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to the manufacturer's specified torque for your vehicle (consult factory manual).
- If the nut slots do not align with the cotter pin hole at exact torque, tighten to the next slot that allows proper alignment without exceeding the maximum recommended torque.
- Insert a correctly sized cotter pin through the slot and hole, then bend the ends of the cotter pin to secure it.
- Reinstall dust cap if applicable, remount the wheel, lower the vehicle, and perform a final safety check.
