Direct-fit long-arm gas tank sending unit for classic Chevy muscle cars. Designed for 1968–1969 Camaro and 1968–1972 Nova with long arm tanks, this 3/8" sending unit replaces worn or inaccurate level senders to restore proper fuel-gauge operation. Built from corrosion-resistant materials and calibrated to OEM-style operation, it provides reliable, repeatable readings, improves drivability, and simplifies restoration or maintenance projects with an easy-to-install replacement.
Features:
- Fits 1968-1969 Chevrolet Camaro and 1968-1972 Chevrolet Nova equipped with long-arm fuel tanks.
- Long-arm design with a 3/8" stem to reach fuel levels in factory long-style tanks.
- Constructed from corrosion-resistant materials for long service life in fuel environments.
- Restores accurate fuel-gauge readings and reduces erratic or false level indications.
- Direct-replacement form and electrical compatibility for straightforward swap-in replacement.
- Ideal for restorations, maintenance, or replacing failed original sending units.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1-2 hours
Instructions:
- Work in a well-ventilated area, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and relieve fuel system pressure if applicable.
- Drain or siphon enough fuel from the tank to lower the fuel level below the sending unit opening to reduce spills.
- Raise and securely support the vehicle using jack stands or a lift to access the fuel tank and sending unit.
- Locate the sending unit access point—either an in-floor access plate or the top of the tank. If there is no access plate, support and lower the tank following vehicle-specific procedures.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and any fuel lines attached to the sending unit. Cap lines to prevent spills.
- Remove the retaining ring or mounting bolts holding the sending unit in place. Carefully lift the sender straight up and out to avoid damaging the float arm or sending arm.
- Compare the new unit to the old one to confirm correct arm length and terminal locations. Replace the gasket or O-ring with a new seal.
- Install the new sending unit into the tank, ensuring the float and arm are positioned to match the original orientation. Seat the gasket and secure the retaining ring or bolts to the specified torque if available.
- Reconnect electrical wiring and fuel lines, lower the tank if removed, and restore any removed components.
- Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on and use a multimeter or the vehicle fuel gauge to verify operation. Check for fuel leaks with the tank at operating level and repair if necessary.
- Test drive and re-check for tightness and leaks before returning the vehicle to regular use.
