1968-1982 Chevrolet Corvette Headlight Actuator Rod Seal designed to protect the headlight actuator rod where it passes through the bucket. This replacement seal prevents water, dust and road debris from entering the actuator and housing, helping preserve motor bearings and linkage for reliable pop-up headlight operation. Made from a durable rubber compound for long service life and straightforward OEM-style fitment, it’s an essential part for restoration and routine maintenance.
Features:
- Fits 1968-1982 Chevrolet Corvette (pop-up headlight models).
- High-quality rubber compound provides a tight, long-lasting seal.
- Prevents water, dirt and road debris from reaching the actuator and motor.
- Helps reduce corrosion and wear on linkage and motor components.
- Simple, direct replacement for worn or cracked original seals — ideal for restorations.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 15-30 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, ensure ignition is off and headlights are in the down position. For safety, disconnect the battery if you will be working near the actuator motor.
- Open the hood and access the headlight bucket area. Retract or extend the headlight as needed to expose the actuator rod and seal area.
- If required, remove any access panels or retainers that block access to the actuator rod using a screwdriver or appropriate tool.
- Use needle-nose pliers or a flat screwdriver to remove the retaining clip or fastener holding the old seal in place, then slide or pull the old seal off the rod.
- Clean the actuator rod and surrounding housing with a rag to remove dirt, grease and debris. Inspect the rod and linkage for wear or damage.
- Apply a thin layer of silicone grease or rubber-safe lubricant to the actuator rod and inside the new seal to ease installation and protect the rubber.
- Slide the new seal into position on the rod and seat it fully against the housing or retainer. Reinstall any retaining clips or fasteners.
- Reassemble any access panels, reconnect the battery (if disconnected), and cycle the headlights several times to confirm smooth operation and proper seal fit.
- Check for any gaps or misalignment and make minor adjustments if necessary.
