A direct-replacement hood for 1970–1972 Chevelle and El Camino Super Sport (SS) models, this non-functional cowl induction hood restores the classic SS appearance while protecting the engine bay. Engineered as an OEM-style stamped steel panel with a corrosion-resistant primer, it mounts to factory hinge and latch locations and includes pre-drilled holes for straightforward attachment. Designed for restoration and replacement projects, the hood delivers durable, long-lasting performance, a clean fit and finish, and straightforward prep for paint to match your vehicle.
Features:
  • Fits 1970–1972 Chevrolet Chevelle and El Camino Super Sport (SS) models.
  • Non-functional cowl induction styling preserves the SS look without requiring hood scoop plumbing or engine clearance changes.
  • Stamped steel construction with corrosion-resistant primer for durability and easy paint prep.
  • Pre-drilled hinge and latch mounting points for direct fitment to factory hardware.
  • Restoration-ready design replaces rusted or damaged original hoods and improves exterior appearance.
  • Designed for straightforward alignment to factory gaps; can be adjusted with basic shims or washers.
  • Provides engine bay protection and reliable closing/latching when installed and adjusted correctly.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 1–2 hours (with two people)
Suggested Tools:
  • Socket set (8mm, 10mm, 13mm or appropriate sizes)
  • Ratchet and extension
  • Torque wrench
  • Panel alignment shims or flat washers
  • Masking tape
  • Hood prop or padded stand
  • Assistant (recommended)
  • Screwdriver or pliers (for washer/nozzle disconnects)
  • Work gloves and safety glasses
Instructions:
  1. Prepare vehicle: park on level ground, engage parking brake, and open hood. Place masking tape along fender edges to protect paint during alignment.
  2. Support the existing hood with a prop or have an assistant hold it steady. If equipped, disconnect hood wash/nozzle hoses and any insulation clips.
  3. Locate and loosen (do not remove) the hinge-to-hood bolts on both sides until the hood is free to move on the hinges.
  4. With an assistant supporting the hood, remove the hinge-to-hood bolts and carefully lift the hood off the vehicle. Set it on a padded surface or stand.
  5. Position the replacement hood on the fenders with the help of an assistant. Align the hinge holes and install hinge-to-hood bolts finger-tight on both sides.
  6. Adjust fore/aft and gap alignment by sliding the hood on the hinge studs and using shims or washers as needed to achieve even fender gaps and proper latch engagement.
  7. Once aligned, tighten hinge bolts evenly to a snug fit. If torque specs are available for your vehicle, use those values; otherwise tighten securely while avoiding overtightening.
  8. Reconnect any washer/nozzle lines and reattach insulation clips if applicable. Verify the hood latch and striker align and operate smoothly; adjust striker position if needed for proper locking.
  9. Cycle the hood open and closed several times to confirm smooth operation and consistent gaps. Make final minor adjustments to hinge bolts or striker as necessary.
  10. Perform a visual inspection for clearance to the windshield and engine components; ensure paint prep is completed before final finish painting.
  11. After paint and final installation, recheck bolt torque and latch operation after a short drive to confirm stability and fit.
  12. Dispose of the old hood responsibly or keep it for reference. Touch up any fender paint protection tape removal and clean up the area.
