Front left fender apron for 1971-1973 Ford Mustang and Mercury Cougar, engineered to restore and reinforce the inner front fender structure. This apron secures the outer fender to the radiator support and firewall area, maintains body alignment, and protects against vibration and damage. Built to OEM dimensions for proper fitment, it provides a durable, corrosion-resistant solution for restoration projects and collision repairs while simplifying reassembly and improving long-term reliability.
Features:
- Fits 1971-1973 Ford Mustang and Mercury Cougar — front left (driver side) apron.
- Stamped steel construction for strength and OEM-like fit.
- Secures and aligns the outer fender to the radiator support and firewall.
- Reduces vibration and prevents edge damage in the engine bay.
- Designed for restoration and collision repair with durable corrosion resistance.
- Direct-fit design minimizes modification and simplifies installation.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1–3 hours
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and raise/support the front of the car with jack stands or a lift.
- Remove the front wheel and inner splash shield as needed to access the apron area.
- Disconnect and remove any components attached to the apron area (headlight assemblies, trim, wiring harness clips, heater hoses, or brackets) to create clearance.
- Apply penetrating oil to factory fasteners and remove bolts, screws, or rivets securing the old apron. If spot welds are present, carefully drill or grind them out.
- Remove the old apron and clean mating surfaces on the radiator support and firewall, removing rust, old sealant, and debris. Use a wire brush or grinder for thorough prep.
- Test-fit the new apron into position, ensuring alignment with factory mounting points and adjacent body panels. Make any minor adjustments for flush fit.
- Secure the apron using the original hardware or supplied fasteners. If welding is required at any spot-weld locations, tack-weld, check alignment, then complete welds per standard panel replacement practice.
- Apply seam sealer to all exposed joints and seams to prevent corrosion, then prime and paint the apron to match surrounding metal.
- Reinstall any removed components (headlights, wiring clips, splash shields, wheel) and torque fasteners to factory specifications.
- Lower the vehicle, reconnect the battery, check panel gaps and alignment, and perform a final inspection for secure fitment and proper operation of reinstalled components.
