Door Latch Retainer for 1973–1986 Ford trucks and 1980–1983 Ford Bronco that secures the door latch assembly to the door structure, maintaining proper alignment and reliable engagement. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for worn, bent, or missing retainers, it restores factory latch positioning to eliminate rattles, prevent premature wear, and ensure smooth door operation. Constructed for durability and corrosion resistance, this retainer is ideal for restoration projects and routine maintenance, offering a simple bolt-on solution that improves long-term reliability and safety.
Features:
  • Fits 1973–1986 Ford trucks and 1980–1983 Ford Bronco models.
  • Stamped steel construction with a corrosion-resistant finish for long-lasting durability.
  • Secures the door latch assembly to prevent movement, reduce vibration, and stop rattling.
  • Direct replacement for worn or damaged retainers to restore factory alignment and reliable latching.
  • Easy bolt-on installation — perfect for restorations, maintenance, and classic truck repairs.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
  • Trim panel removal tool or flat pry tool
  • Ratchet and socket set (common SAE sizes)
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Work gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground and lower the window for easier access.
  2. Remove the interior door panel: remove visible screws, carefully pry out trim clips with a panel tool, and disconnect any electrical connectors or courtesy lights as needed.
  3. Locate the door latch assembly and identify the existing retainer; detach any linkage clips or rods that obstruct access.
  4. Remove the fasteners (bolts or screws) securing the old retainer and lift it away. Keep original hardware if in good condition or replace as needed.
  5. Position the new retainer over the latch assembly, align mounting holes, and thread the fasteners by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  6. Tighten fasteners snugly with a ratchet and socket; ensure the retainer holds the latch securely but avoid over-torquing.
  7. Reconnect any linkage clips or rods and operate the latch several times to confirm smooth engagement and proper alignment.
  8. Reinstall the door panel and trim, reconnect any electrical connectors, and test the door open/close function to verify installation.
