A direct-fit hood latch assembly designed for 1977–1980 Chevy and GMC trucks, supplied with the T44 hood release cable option for smooth, reliable operation. This assembly secures the hood, prevents unwanted opening, and restores proper hood alignment and safety on classic C/K series trucks. Built from corrosion-resistant materials with OEM-style geometry, it delivers long-lasting durability, dependable catch engagement, and straightforward installation for restoration or maintenance projects.
Features:
- Fits 1977–1980 Chevy and GMC trucks (C/K series) for direct replacement.
- Durable steel construction with corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
- Includes T44 hood release cable option for smooth, positive interior release.
- Restores proper hood alignment, reduces vibration and hood rattle.
- Straightforward bolt-on design for easy installation and replacement.
- Ideal for restorations and routine maintenance to ensure safe hood retention.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-45 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and prop the hood open securely with a hood prop or stand.
- If replacing an old latch, disconnect the interior hood release handle and detach the existing release cable from the latch. Note routing for reinstallation.
- Remove the mounting bolts securing the old latch to the radiator support or hood frame and carefully lift the latch assembly free.
- Clean the mounting area and striker engagement surface; remove rust, old grease, and debris to ensure proper seating.
- Position the new latch assembly in place and start the mounting bolts by hand to ensure correct alignment.
- Loosely tighten bolts, then check latch alignment with the hood striker; adjust position as needed so the hood closes flush and the secondary catch engages properly.
- Connect the T44 hood release cable to the latch per the cable end fitting—ensure the cable housing seats properly in its grommet or bracket.
- Adjust cable tension at the cable adjuster so the interior release operates smoothly without excessive slack; the hood should release with a firm pull but not bind.
- Fully tighten mounting bolts to a firm snugness (use a torque wrench if desired and follow factory torque specs if available).
- Operate the interior release several times and visually inspect the latch engagement. Close the hood gently from a seated height to verify smooth capture and positive secondary catch operation.
- Apply a light coat of grease or lubricant to the latch pivot points for smooth long-term operation and to prevent rust.
- Re-check all fasteners and cable routing after a short test drive; re-adjust as needed for optimal fit and operation.
