Built for durability and reliable service, it restores safe handling characteristics to restored or maintained classic cars. The part is suitable for either right- or left-hand lower front locations and is engineered for straightforward installation and long-term performance.

  • Fits 1954–1968 Checker, Ford and Mercury full-size front lower ball joint applications (right or left hand).
  • Replaces worn front lower ball joint to restore steering precision and suspension alignment.
  • Durable materials and corrosion-resistant finish extend service life in classic vehicles.
  • Reduces vibration, steering play and uneven tire wear for safer driving.
  • Direct-fit replacement for restoration projects and routine maintenance; easy to install with common tools.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands

  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint press or C-clamp with adapters
  • Pry bar
  • Hammer
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the front end with a floor jack and secure on jack stands, then remove the wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to ball joint fasteners and allow to soak if rusty.
  4. Remove cotter pin and castellated nut from the outer tie rod end and separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle if needed for access.
  5. Remove the ball joint retaining nut(s) securing the lower ball joint to the control arm/knuckle.
  6. Use a ball joint separator or press to detach the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle without damaging surrounding components.
  7. If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, use a ball joint press or appropriate C-clamp adapter to press it out; otherwise unbolt as required.
  8. Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or excessive wear. Replace the control arm if needed.
  9. Position the new ball joint into the control arm bore and press or bolt it into place following orientation for right or left hand as applicable.
  10. Reattach the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle, install the new nut and torque to factory specifications. Install a new cotter pin if applicable.
  11. Reinstall any removed tie rod end components and torque all fasteners to specification.
  12. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, tighten lug nuts to specification, then test drive and check alignment. Perform a professional wheel alignment after replacement if necessary.
