Front lower ball joint designed for 1955-1957 Chevrolet passenger cars, this direct-fit replacement restores proper steering and suspension geometry. It secures the control arm to the steering knuckle, allowing controlled pivoting while bearing vehicle load. Built for durability and reliable performance, the part helps eliminate play, reduce vibration, and restore safe, predictable handling in classic Chevy restorations and maintenance jobs. Sold as right- or left-hand application for lower front suspension.
Features:
  • Fits 1955, 1956, and 1957 Chevrolet passenger cars — front lower, available for right or left hand application.
  • Precisely manufactured to restore correct suspension geometry and steering response.
  • High-strength steel construction with protective finish for corrosion resistance and long life.
  • Designed to reduce play and vibration, improving safety and tire wear.
  • Direct replacement for worn or damaged original ball joints — ideal for restorations and routine maintenance.
  • Greaseable or sealed designs available depending on application for easy serviceability.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 1 - 2 hours
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Socket and wrench set
  • Ball joint press or C-clamp with adapters
  • Hammer and punch
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease gun (if greaseable)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise front of vehicle with floor jack and secure on jack stands. Remove wheel.
  3. Support the lower control arm with a jack or stand to relieve load on the ball joint.
  4. Remove cotter pin and castle nut (or retaining nut) from the ball joint stud, using penetrating oil if needed.
  5. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or appropriate puller.
  6. Remove any retaining ring or bolts securing the ball joint to the lower control arm.
  7. Use a ball joint press (or C-clamp with adapters) to press out the old ball joint from the control arm.
  8. Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage. Lightly lubricate new ball joint’s housing if recommended.
  9. Press the new ball joint into the control arm until fully seated, ensuring correct orientation for right or left hand application.
  10. Reinstall retaining ring or bolts and torque to factory specifications.
  11. Reinsert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, install the castle nut, and torque to specification. Install new cotter pin if applicable.
  12. If greaseable, apply grease through the fitting until boot distends slightly. Reinstall wheel and hand-tighten lug nuts.
  13. Lower vehicle, torque lug nuts to specification, and perform a final torque check on ball joint nut if required.
  14. Test drive at low speed to verify proper operation and recheck fasteners after initial miles.
