[More Info]
Front upper ball joint designed for 1957–1989 Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, and Plymouth vehicles. This replacement ball joint secures the upper control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining proper suspension geometry and safe steering response. The housing features a broader thread angle which can help compensate for loose-fitting control arms by improving clamp engagement and reducing play. Built for durability and reliable road performance, it’s a direct-fit restoration or maintenance part for classic Mopar front suspensions, offering corrosion resistance and simple installation for most home mechanics.
Features:
  • Fitment: Direct replacement for 1957-1989 Chrysler / DeSoto / Dodge / Plymouth front upper ball joint (right or left hand applications).
  • Broader thread angle at the housing to improve clamp engagement and help address loose-fitting control arms.
  • Constructed from hardened steel with corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
  • Secures the upper control arm to the steering knuckle, preserving alignment and steering stability.
  • Simple press-in/fasten design suitable for restoration projects and routine suspension maintenance.
  • Includes greaseable fitting (where applicable) for easy lubrication and reduced wear.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Ball joint separator or pickle fork
  • Hammer
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint press or suitable C-clamp and adapters
  • Pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease gun (if greaseable)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Raise front of vehicle with floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
  3. Loosen and remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the upper ball joint stud (if present).
  4. Use a ball joint separator or pickle fork to separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle. Apply penetrating oil if components are seized.
  5. Remove any retaining clips, snap rings, or mounting bolts securing the ball joint to the control arm as applicable.
  6. Use a ball joint press or appropriate adapter and C-clamp to press out the old ball joint from the control arm housing.
  7. Clean the control arm bore, inspect for wear or damage, and apply a thin film of anti-seize or assembly lube to the new ball joint housing if recommended.
  8. Press the new ball joint into the control arm until fully seated, ensuring the broader thread angle engages correctly and the joint is oriented properly for right or left hand application.
  9. Reinstall any retaining clips or hardware and torque mounting fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
  10. Reattach the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut to spec, and insert a new cotter pin if required.
  11. Apply grease through the zerk fitting if equipped, reassemble the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
  12. Perform a visual check and test drive to confirm proper steering and suspension operation; have wheel alignment checked and adjusted by a shop if necessary.
