  • Designed to secure the steering linkage and maintain proper steering geometry
  • Durable construction resists wear and reduces steering play and vibration
  • Direct replacement for restoring original steering performance on classic cars
  • Straightforward installation suitable for DIY mechanics and restoration projects
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Combination wrench set
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint or pitman arm puller (if needed)
  • Hammer
  • Grease gun (if zerk fitting provided)
  • Pliers
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface, set the parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack, and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the passenger side.
  3. Locate the idler arm on the frame where the steering center link connects; inspect mounting fasteners and retainers (cotter pins, nuts).
  4. Remove any cotter pin or retaining clip, then loosen and remove the nut securing the idler arm stud to the steering center link. Use a ball joint/pitman arm puller or carefully strike the linkage connection to separate it.
  5. Unbolt the idler arm bracket from the frame using the appropriate sockets/wrenches. Retain hardware for comparison or replacement as needed.
  6. Compare the new idler arm to the old unit for correct orientation and mounting hole alignment.
  7. Install the new idler arm onto the frame and hand-thread mounting bolts; tighten to the vehicle manufacturer’s specified torque with a torque wrench.
  8. Reconnect the steering center link to the idler arm stud, install the nut, and tighten to specified torque. Install a new cotter pin or retainer if required.
  9. If the idler arm includes a grease fitting, apply grease via grease gun until lubrication is visible or specified amount is reached.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque the lug nuts to specification, and test-steer at low speed to confirm correct operation and absence of excessive play.
  11. After installation, have a professional alignment performed if steering feel or tracking is affected.
