Instructions:
- Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, and safely raise the front of the vehicle. Support with jack stands.
- Remove the wheel if needed for access and apply penetrating oil to the idler arm fasteners and linkage connections.
- Support the center link or drag link to prevent sudden movement once the idler arm is disconnected.
- Use a pitman arm puller or pickle fork to separate the idler arm stud from the center link/drag link; remove the retaining nut and washers.
- Unbolt the idler arm bracket from the frame using the appropriate sockets/wrenches and remove the old idler arm.
- Position the new idler arm in place and hand-thread mounting bolts. Torque mounting bolts to factory specifications.
- Reconnect the idler arm stud to the center link/drag link, install new or existing washers and castle nut, and torque to spec. Install cotter pin if applicable.
- Lower the vehicle, and check steering free-play. Perform a wheel alignment or have professional alignment done to ensure correct steering geometry.
- Test-drive at low speed to confirm steering response and check for any unusual noises or looseness.
