Center link designed for 1964-1966 Ford Mustang vehicles equipped with V8 engines and manual steering. This center link replaces the factory steering center link to restore proper front-end geometry, improve steering response, and eliminate play caused by worn or damaged components. Built for durability and precise alignment, it serves as a direct-fit solution during restoration or routine maintenance to ensure reliable steering control and long-term performance.
Features:
- Fitment: 1964-1966 Ford Mustang — V8 engines with factory manual steering only.
- Direct-fit replacement designed to restore proper steering geometry and reduce play.
- Constructed from durable steel for long-lasting strength and resistance to bending.
- Helps prevent uneven tire wear and improves steering responsiveness.
- Pre-drilled mounting points for straightforward installation and alignment.
- Ideal for classic Mustang restorations, repairs, or original-equipment maintenance.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1–2 hours
Instructions:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface, set the parking brake, and block the rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack, and securely support it on jack stands. Remove the front wheels.
- Inspect and note alignment settings; mark any components if necessary to aid reassembly.
- Apply penetrating lubricant to the tie rod ends, pitman arm, and mounting hardware to ease removal.
- Separate the outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles using a ball joint/tie rod separator or puller. Protect seals and boots if reusing components.
- Loosen and remove the center link mounting nuts and retainers at the pitman arm, idler arm (if applicable), and inner tie rod or steering arm connections.
- Remove the old center link assembly from the vehicle. Compare new center link to the old unit to confirm fit and orientation.
- Install the new center link in the reverse order: position it on the pitman arm, idler arm, and inner connection points. Start hardware by hand to ensure proper alignment.
- Torque all mounting nuts to factory specifications using a torque wrench. Reconnect outer tie rod ends and torque to spec.
- Reinstall wheels, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Perform a visual check for interference and test steering operation at static. Have a professional alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure correct toe and steering geometry.
