Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels for safety.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands; remove the appropriate front wheel if required for access.
- Locate the idler arm on the passenger side frame rail supporting the center steering link.
- Remove any cotter pins or retaining clips from the idler arm stud and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut securing the idler arm to the center link or frame bracket.
- Use a pitman/idler arm puller or ball joint separator to safely separate the idler arm from the center link; avoid striking the arm to prevent damage.
- Unbolt the idler arm mounting hardware from the frame bracket and remove the old idler arm.
- Compare the new idler arm to the old unit to verify orientation and fitment.
- Install the new idler arm into the frame bracket and fasten mounting bolts hand-tight. Attach the idler arm stud to the center link and thread on the retaining nut.
- Torque all mounting and stud nuts to the vehicle manufacturer’s factory specifications, then install new cotter pins or retaining clips as required.
- If the new idler arm has a grease fitting, lubricate according to specification. Lower vehicle, reinstall wheel if removed, and torque wheel lug nuts to spec.
- Perform a steering check and test drive to verify elimination of play and proper steering response. Have a professional alignment performed if necessary to ensure correct toe and handling.
