Front upper ball joint designed to replace worn or damaged units on 1971–1999 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. This direct-fit upper front ball joint restores proper steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent premature tire wear. Constructed for durability and reliable performance under road conditions, it serves as a cost-effective replacement during suspension repair or vehicle restoration projects. Available for both right- and left-hand (passenger and driver) applications to match factory fitment and function.
Features:
  • Fitment: Direct-fit front upper ball joint for 1971–1999 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs (right or left hand application).
  • High-strength metal housing and hardened stud for long-lasting durability under load.
  • Restores steering precision by eliminating play and returning correct suspension geometry.
  • Sealed design helps keep out contamination and reduce maintenance needs.
  • Replacement part ideal for suspension repairs and vehicle restoration projects.
  • Easy-to-follow installation with common automotive tools; suitable for DIY mechanics and professional shops.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Socket and ratchet set
  • Breaker bar
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint press or C-clamp with adapters
  • Pry bar
  • Hammer
  • Penetrating oil
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and block rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, then lift the front and support the vehicle securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Remove any components obstructing access to the upper ball joint (e.g., brake caliper bracket, rotor, or sway bar link) as needed for clearance.
  4. Disconnect the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle: remove the cotter pin and castellated nut, then separate the ball joint stud using a ball joint separator or by applying controlled force with a hammer and punch.
  5. If applicable, remove the upper control arm from the vehicle or detach it enough to press out the old ball joint.
  6. Use a ball joint press or suitable C-clamp adapter to press out the old ball joint from the control arm. Apply penetrating oil if the unit is seized, and take care to avoid damaging the control arm.
  7. Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or excessive wear. Replace the control arm if structurally compromised.
  8. Press the new ball joint into the control arm until fully seated, following orientation and depth per factory specification. Ensure the snap ring / retaining features (if present) are engaged.
  9. Reinstall the upper control arm (if removed) and reattach the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle. Torque the nut to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification and install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. Reinstall any removed components (rotor, caliper bracket, sway bar link) and remount the wheel. Torque wheel lug nuts to spec.
  11. Lower the vehicle, then perform a final torque check on the ball joint nut and wheel lug nuts. Test-drive at low speed to verify proper steering and suspension operation.
  12. Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure correct wheel alignment and to prevent uneven tire wear.
