Inner tie rod end (right/left hand) for 1978-1995 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models. This precision-engineered steering component connects the steering rack to the outer tie rod, maintaining proper alignment and steering response. Ideal for restoration projects or routine maintenance where factory-fit replacement is required.
Features:
  • Fitment: 1978–1995 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac vehicles (inner tie rod end, right or left hand).
  • Direct replacement for worn or damaged inner tie rod ends to restore steering precision.
  • Made from hardened steel with corrosion-resistant finish for long-lasting durability.
  • Helps reduce steering play and vibration, improving safety and tire life.
  • Suitable for restoration and routine maintenance; designed for OE-style fit and function.
  • Easy to install with common hand tools; available for right- or left-hand steering applications.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 45-120 minutes (per side)
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Open-end or adjustable wrenches
  • Tie rod removal tool / pickle fork
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease (if required)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock wheels. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Locate the inner tie rod at the steering rack; apply penetrating oil to fasteners if corroded.
  4. Remove any steering rack boot clamp or retainers and slide the boot back to expose the inner tie rod.
  5. Loosen and remove the jam nut and outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod if needed to separate assembly.
  6. Use a tie rod removal tool or appropriate puller to disconnect the inner tie rod from the steering knuckle or linkage (if applicable).
  7. Unthread and remove the old inner tie rod from the steering rack. Inspect rack threads and seal area for damage.
  8. Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the steering rack to the correct depth; tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification.
  9. Reposition and secure the steering rack boot with clamps or retainers. Reinstall outer tie rod and jam nut, setting approximate alignment to match the removed position.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, then torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
  11. Have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure correct steering geometry and prevent tire wear.
