Replacement inner tie rod end (right/left hand) for 1978–2005 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, and Pontiac vehicles. This precision-machined steering component connects the steering rack to the steering linkage, translating steering input into wheel movement while maintaining alignment and absorbing road forces. Built for durability and reliable performance, it restores tight steering feel, reduces play, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for OE-style inner tie rod ends, it delivers dependable operation for routine maintenance or full steering system restoration.

  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Torque wrench

  • Penetrating oil
  • Marker or paint pen
  • Grease (if applicable)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level surface, engage parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, then raise the vehicle with a jack and support with jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Locate the inner tie rod connected to the steering rack and the outer tie rod; mark the position of the outer tie rod on the threads to preserve alignment.
  4. Loosen and remove the jam nut securing the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod. Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
  5. Remove any protective boots or clamps covering the inner tie rod and apply penetrating oil to fasteners if needed.
  6. Unscrew the inner tie rod from the steering rack using the appropriate inner tie rod tool or wrench. Retain any sealing washers or retainers as required.
  7. Install the replacement inner tie rod by threading it onto the steering rack to the specified seat. Torque to manufacturer specifications.
  8. Reattach the outer tie rod to the new inner tie rod, aligning to the marked thread position to approximate previous toe settings. Tighten the jam nut to specification.
  9. Reinstall any boots or clamps, ensuring seals are seated and protected from debris. Grease fittings if the part is serviceable.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
  11. Because toe alignment may have changed, have a professional wheel alignment performed as soon as possible after installation.
