Outer left-hand tie rod end engineered as a direct replacement for 1980–1985 Ford vehicles (verify specific fitment for your model/year). This component links the steering rack to the wheel assembly, translating steering input into wheel movement while maintaining alignment and road-holding stability. Built to restore precise steering geometry, reduce play and vibration, and help prevent uneven tire wear. Durable construction and a corrosion-resistant finish deliver long-lasting service life, making it ideal for maintenance, repair, or restoration projects.
Features:
- Fitment: 1980–1985 Ford vehicles (confirm part number and vehicle application before purchase).
- Outer left-hand tie rod end designed to restore factory steering geometry.
- Durable metal construction with corrosion-resistant coating for long service life.
- Helps eliminate steering play, reduce vibration, and prevent uneven tire wear.
- Direct-replacement fit for straightforward installation during repairs or restorations.
- Sealed ball joint and greaseable/non-greaseable option (check part specifics) for reliable operation.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts, lift the vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands, then remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer left tie rod end where it connects the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod.
- Apply penetrating oil to the jam nut and tie rod end threads if corroded; loosen the jam nut that secures the tie rod end to the inner tie rod.
- Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut (or retaining nut) that secures the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid excessive hammering to prevent damage.
- Unthread the tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns it takes to remove it, counting turns or measuring exposed thread length to preserve alignment.
- Install the new outer left tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod to the previously noted position. Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end.
- Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the castle or retaining nut to the manufacturer’s torque specification, and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, tighten lug nuts to spec, and torque all fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
- Because tie rod replacement affects wheel alignment, have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure correct toe and steering performance.
