Front lower ball joint engineered as a direct-fit replacement for 1980–1997 Ford lower control arm applications. This critical suspension component secures the steering knuckle to the control arm while allowing controlled articulation; it restores proper steering geometry, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Built for durability and reliable performance under typical road and load conditions, the unit is intended for restoration, repair, or routine maintenance of older Ford trucks and SUVs. Direct-fit design simplifies installation and returns original steering feel and alignment stability.
Features:
- Fitment: 1980–1997 Ford lower front ball joint applications (trucks and SUVs) — verify part number and vehicle-specific fitment before purchase.
- Direct-fit replacement for front lower control arm ball joint assemblies.
- Durable construction with hardened stud and robust housing for long service life.
- Secures steering knuckle to control arm, restoring correct steering geometry and reducing play.
- Helps prevent uneven tire wear and vibration associated with worn ball joints.
- Designed for straightforward installation during suspension repair or restoration.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Prepare the vehicle: park on level ground, set emergency brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the vehicle with a floor jack, and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners on the control arm and ball joint. Remove any cotter pin and loosen the castle nut securing the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle but do not remove yet.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or appropriate tool. Support the knuckle to avoid stressing the brake hose or CV axle.
- Remove bolts or fasteners holding the lower control arm if required to gain access. Use a ball joint press to press out the old ball joint from the control arm housing.
- Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or excessive wear. Replace the control arm if necessary.
- Press the new ball joint into the control arm bore using the ball joint press and correct adapters. Ensure it is fully seated and oriented correctly.
- Reinstall the control arm (if removed) and connect the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle. Torque the castle nut to factory specification and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Re-torque all control arm and suspension fasteners to manufacturer specifications. If the ball joint is greaseable, apply the recommended grease.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec. Test drive and have a professional alignment performed to restore proper tracking and tire wear.
