Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, then lift vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the inner right-hand tie rod end on the steering rack and apply penetrating oil to fasteners as needed.
- Mark the position or measure the exposed length of the tie rod from a fixed point to preserve alignment during installation.
- Loosen the lock nut on the outer tie rod, then separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork if necessary.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod and remove the inner tie rod retaining fastener(s) at the steering rack.
- Remove the old inner tie rod from the steering rack — use an inner tie rod tool if available for easier removal.
- Install the new inner right-hand tie rod by threading it onto the steering rack to the previously measured position. Torque retaining nut(s) to manufacturer specifications.
- Reattach the outer tie rod to the new inner tie rod and tighten the lock nut to secure the assembly.
- Reconnect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and torque the tie rod end nut to spec. Install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and prevent uneven tire wear.
