Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level surface, set parking brake and loosen front wheel lug nuts.
- Raise the vehicle and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to ball joint nut and mounting bolts if needed.
- Remove cotter pin (if equipped) and loosen/remove the ball joint retaining nut.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork; be careful to protect surrounding components.
- Unbolt the ball joint from the control arm (some designs are pressed in—if so, use a press or appropriate tool).
- Remove the old ball joint and clean mating surfaces on the control arm and knuckle.
- Install the new ball joint into the control arm or knuckle per design—bolt or press into place. If pressed, follow proper press procedures or consult a shop.
- Torque all fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Install a new cotter pin if the design requires one.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
- After installation, have wheel alignment checked and adjusted as needed to restore proper suspension geometry.
