Front lower ball joint (right or left) designed for 1988-2001 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models. This replacement ball joint secures the steering knuckle to the control arm, allowing smooth pivoting and maintaining proper wheel alignment. Built for durability and reliable performance, it helps restore steering responsiveness, reduce play, and prevent uneven tire wear. Ideal for routine suspension repairs or full restoration projects, this component offers a direct-fit replacement to bring original handling characteristics back to your vehicle.
Features:
  • Fits 1988-2001 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac front lower ball joint (right or left hand application).
  • Direct-fit replacement for factory lower ball joint mounting points.
  • Hardened steel stud and housing for long service life and resistance to wear.
  • Press-fit design with greaseable or sealed options to reduce maintenance and extend longevity.
  • Restores proper steering feel, reduces play, and helps prevent premature tire wear.
  • Easy to install with basic suspension tools; ideal for restoration or maintenance jobs.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 1-2 hours per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Breaker bar and socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint press or hydraulic press
  • Pry bar
  • Hammer
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Grease gun (if greaseable ball joint)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts, raise vehicle with a jack, and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Remove any components blocking access to the lower ball joint (e.g., brake caliper and rotor or ABS sensor) as needed and support caliper to avoid strain on the brake hose.
  4. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut securing the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle. Do not fully remove yet.
  5. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or by carefully striking the knuckle while supporting the control arm. Once separated, remove the castle nut and stud.
  6. If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, set up a ball joint press or hydraulic press and remove the old ball joint from the control arm housing.
  7. Clean the control arm bore of rust and debris. Inspect the control arm and knuckle for damage and replace if needed.
  8. Press the new ball joint into the control arm bore until fully seated. Ensure correct orientation for right or left side.
  9. Insert the ball joint stud into the steering knuckle, thread the castle nut, and torque to the manufacturer's specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. If applicable, grease the ball joint through the zerk fitting until fresh grease appears at the boot.
  11. Reinstall any removed components (rotor, caliper, sensors), mount the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to spec.
  12. Perform a wheel alignment after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
