Direct-fit outer left-hand tie rod end for 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner designed to restore steering precision and vehicle safety. This replacement part secures the steering knuckle to the steering linkage, translating steering wheel input into accurate wheel movement while resisting wear from road forces. Constructed for durability and reliable performance, it reduces play in the steering system, helps prevent uneven tire wear, and is suitable for repair, restoration, or routine maintenance of your 4Runner. Engineered for straightforward installation with common hand tools, it provides a long-lasting solution to loose or damaged tie rod ends.
Features:
  • Fits 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner (outer left-hand tie rod end)
  • Precision-made to restore steering response and reduce play
  • Durable metal construction with corrosion-resistant finish
  • Protective boot to keep grease in and contaminants out
  • Direct replacement for OEM form, fit, and function
  • Helps prevent uneven tire wear and improves vehicle safety
  • Easy installation with standard automotive tools; ideal for repairs and restorations
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Socket set and ratchet
  • Torque wrench
  • Tie rod puller or pickle fork
  • Pliers
  • Hammer
  • Penetrating oil
  • Measuring tape or caliper
  • Grease
Instructions:
  1. Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen the wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel to access the tie rod end.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to the castle nut and tie rod threads if corroded. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut using pliers.
  4. Loosen and remove the castle nut that secures the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  5. Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Tap lightly with a hammer if needed to free it.
  6. Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the threaded inner tie rod or measure the distance from a fixed point to preserve alignment.
  7. Unscrew the old outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod. Count the number of turns or measure to match the new part's position.
  8. Thread the new outer left-hand tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position (or the measured number of turns).
  9. Install the new tie rod end into the steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque, and insert a new cotter pin.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque the wheel lug nuts to specification, and perform a preliminary steering check.
  11. Because steering geometry may have changed slightly, have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure proper tire wear and handling.
