Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle and support securely on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and cotter pins; remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut on the outer tie rod if required to gain slack.
- Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod end puller or pickle fork and remove the nut; move the outer tie rod out of the way without straining the inner components.
- Locate the inner tie rod end at the steering rack; remove the retaining nut or clamp that secures the inner tie rod to the rack and unthread the inner tie rod from the rack input shaft.
- Unscrew and remove the old inner tie rod end; compare the new part to ensure correct orientation and length.
- Thread the new inner tie rod end onto the rack to the original position (count turns or measure exposure if recorded), then torque the retaining nut or clamp to factory specifications.
- Reattach the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and torque to spec; install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
