Outer left-hand tie rod end for 1997–2004 Ford and Lincoln vehicles. This steering linkage component connects the steering rack to the wheel hub, translating steering input into wheel movement while maintaining proper toe alignment. Designed as a direct-fit replacement to restore steering responsiveness and safety, it features a durable ball stud and housing to resist wear and deliver consistent performance. Ideal for restoring factory steering geometry, reducing play, and preventing uneven tire wear, this part provides reliable service and simple installation for routine suspension/steering repairs.
Features:
- Fits 1997–2004 Ford and Lincoln models — outer left-hand tie rod end.
- Direct-fit replacement to restore proper steering geometry and reduce play.
- Durable metal housing and hardened ball stud for long-lasting performance.
- Protective boot helps keep grease in and contaminants out to extend life.
- Pre-greased or serviceable joint options for easier maintenance.
- Helps prevent uneven tire wear and improves steering responsiveness.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, set parking brake, and loosen the wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer left-hand tie rod end at the steering knuckle and mark the position of the old tie rod on the threaded sleeve to preserve alignment.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut on the tie rod end, but do not fully remove it yet.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Once separated, remove the retaining nut and take out the old tie rod end.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod or adjustment sleeve the number of turns needed to match the previously marked position.
- Thread the new outer left-hand tie rod end onto the inner tie rod or adjustment sleeve to the marked position. If the part is adjustable, fine alignment will still be required.
- Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's torque specification, and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
- Because precise toe alignment is critical, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper handling and tire wear.
