Front upper ball joint (right or left) for 1999–2008 Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC trucks and SUVs. This ball joint replaces worn or damaged factory units to restore proper steering geometry, suspension articulation, and tire wear. Designed for strength and reliable fitment, it secures the control arm to the steering knuckle while allowing smooth pivoting action. Ideal for suspension maintenance, restoration projects, and routine replacements, this component helps maintain safe handling and ride quality.

  • Ball joint separator or pickle fork

  • Grease gun (if joint has grease fitting)
  • Penetrating oil
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, jack up the vehicle and support with jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to the upper ball joint nut and any rusted fasteners; allow to soak.
  4. Remove any components blocking access to the upper ball joint (sway bar links, brake caliper bracket if necessary) and secure brake caliper out of the way without stressing the hose.
  5. Loosen and remove the upper ball joint nut but leave it threaded a few turns to act as a retainer.
  6. Use a ball joint separator or pickle fork to separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle. Strike the knuckle if needed to free the stud, then remove the nut and pull the stud free.
  7. Unbolt the upper control arm if required (some vehicles allow ball joint removal without removing control arm). Support control arm and remove the ball joint from the control arm mounting point.
  8. Compare the new ball joint to the old unit to confirm correct orientation. If the new unit has a grease fitting, lightly grease according to specification.
  9. Install the new ball joint into the control arm and/or knuckle, secure with supplied or factory fasteners. Torque all fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
  10. Reinstall any components removed earlier, remount the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
  11. Test-drive vehicle and verify steering and suspension operation. Have alignment checked and adjusted as needed after replacement.
