Front steering idler arm for 1999–2019 Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer trucks/SUVs. This listing is for the idler arm assembly only (does not include the frame bracket or hydraulic hose). The idler arm supports the steering linkage on the passenger side, keeping the center link aligned and reducing play in the steering system. Built for durability with corrosion-resistant materials and a sealed bushing design, this idler arm restores proper steering geometry, improves handling feel, and reduces uneven tire wear. Simple swap-in replacement for worn or damaged units during steering or suspension service.
Features:
- Fits 1999-2019 Chevrolet, GMC, and Hummer trucks and SUVs (see vehicle-specific applications for exact models).
- Idler arm only — does not include frame bracket or hydraulic hose (bracket sold separately, see QIA-80043).
- Durable construction with corrosion-resistant finish for long life in road and weather exposure.
- Sealed bushing design reduces play and helps maintain steering alignment for improved handling.
- Direct-fit replacement to restore steering stability and reduce vibration or wandering.
- Easy-to-service part suitable for restoration, maintenance, or routine steering repairs.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the front passenger-side wheel for access.
- Apply penetrating lubricant to idler arm-to-frame and idler arm-to-center link fasteners and let soak if corrosion is present.
- Support the center link with a jack or support to prevent sudden movement when the idler arm is removed.
- Remove the nut(s) securing the idler arm stud(s) to the center link using an appropriate socket; use a pitman/ball joint separator or pickle fork to separate the stud from the center link.
- Unbolt the idler arm from the frame bracket (or remove fasteners that clamp the idler arm to its mounting point). Retain any hardware that will be reused or replace with new hardware if provided.
- Compare the old idler arm to the new unit to confirm correct orientation and length. Install the new idler arm onto the frame bracket and into the center link.
- Install and hand-tighten mounting hardware, then torque all fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer’s specified values (refer to factory service manual for exact torque specs).
- If applicable, grease the idler arm fittings until fresh grease is visible (or follow the product’s lubrication instructions).
- Lower the vehicle, re-install the wheel, torque lug nuts to specification, and road-test at low speed to verify steering feel and absence of abnormal noises.
- After a short test drive, re-check fastener torque. Have a professional alignment performed if the steering geometry was disturbed or if uneven tire wear or pulling is observed.
