Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift the vehicle with a jack and support on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle. Use a marker to note the rotation count or measure the distance from a fixed point to the end of the inner tie rod to preserve alignment.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod that secures the outer tie rod end.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and unbolt the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the taper from the knuckle.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns noted earlier to maintain alignment approx.; count turns or use the measured reference.
- Install the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position, hand-tighten, and reinsert into the steering knuckle. Torque the tie rod end nut to manufacturer specs and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod end to secure it.
- If the part includes a grease fitting, apply grease with a grease gun until the boot seats and fresh grease appears.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper toe settings and prevent uneven tire wear.
