Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer right-hand tie rod end where it connects to the steering knuckle and inner tie rod.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod to allow tie rod end removal. Count or mark the number of exposed threads or measure distance to the jam nut to preserve alignment baseline.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end stud from the steering knuckle. Tap gently with a hammer if needed.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod. Keep the recorded thread count/measurement for new part installation.
- Install the new outer tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod to the previously recorded position. Adjust as needed for a close alignment baseline.
- Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, install the nut and torque to vehicle manufacturer specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
- Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end to lock the setting. Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.
- Torque lug nuts to specification and perform a final torque check on the tie rod nut and jam nut after the vehicle is on the ground.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper toe settings and prevent uneven tire wear.
