Outer left-hand tie rod end for 2003–2011 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. This replacement steering component secures the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod and transmits steering input while maintaining proper toe alignment.   • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint/tie rod end separator (pickle fork) or tie rod puller
  • Pliers
  • Tape measure or caliper
  • Grease gun (if applicable)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Locate the outer left tie rod end on the steering knuckle. Note or mark the current thread position on the inner tie rod to preserve alignment as close as possible.
  4. Loosen the jam/lock nut securing the tie rod end to the inner tie rod.
  5. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castellated nut on the tie rod end ball stud. Use a tie rod separator or pickle fork to disengage the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  6. Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns necessary to remove it, counting turns or using your earlier mark to keep alignment close.
  7. Thread the new outer left tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked position or same number of turns as removed.
  8. Insert the ball stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque, and install a new cotter pin if required.
  9. Tighten the jam/lock nut against the tie rod end to the specified torque.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
  11. After installation, have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure correct toe settings and prevent uneven tire wear. Check for proper steering operation and any abnormal noises during a test drive.
