- Outer tie rod end replaces worn or damaged units to restore steering precision and reduce play.
- Durable metal housing with a sealed ball joint to resist dirt, moisture, and premature wear.
- Helps prevent uneven tire wear and improves vehicle tracking and steering response.
- Designed for straightforward replacement during steering or front-end repairs and restorations.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle; mark the position of the old tie rod on the inner tie rod or count the turns to preserve alignment.
- Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut (or retaining nut) at the tie rod-to-knuckle connection.
- Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle; avoid striking the knuckle to prevent damage.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and unthread the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns (or to the marked position).
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked location or the counted turns; tighten the jam nut against the new tie rod end.
- Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, install and torque the retaining nut to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification, and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure proper toe settings and prevent premature tire wear.
