Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise vehicle with jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end where it connects to the steering knuckle and the inner tie rod.
- Mark the position of the old tie rod on the threaded section with a marker to preserve approximate alignment; count thread turns or measure length from a fixed point for reference.
- Apply penetrating oil to nuts and studs to ease removal.
- Remove cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castellated nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint separator or tie rod puller to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod using the recorded measurements to maintain alignment.
- Install the new outer tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod to the marked position or measured length. Tighten the jam nut against the new tie rod end.
- Install the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer's specified torque, and insert a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure correct toe and steering geometry.
