Outer tie rod end (right/left hand) engineered as a direct-fit steering linkage component for 2008–2010 Chrysler, Dodge and Volkswagen vehicles. This part connects the steering rack to the steering knuckle, translating steering input into wheel movement while maintaining alignment. Built for durability and consistent performance, it restores precise steering response, reduces play, and helps prevent premature tire wear. Ideal for repair, restoration, or routine maintenance when steering play or uneven tire wear is present.
Features:
- Fits 2008–2010 Chrysler, Dodge and Volkswagen vehicles (outer tie rod end, right and left hand applications).
- Durable metal construction with corrosion-resistant coating for long service life.
- Restores proper steering geometry and reduces steering play for safer handling.
- Simple direct-replacement design for quick install and compatibility with original steering components.
- Includes a greasable or sealed ball joint to reduce vibration and prevent premature failure.
- Ideal for repair, replacement, and vehicle restoration to maintain alignment and tire life.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle. Mark the position of the tie rod on the threaded portion with a marker to preserve alignment reference.
- Loosen the jam nut that secures the tie rod end to the inner tie rod and count or note the number of turns to remove the outer tie rod end for reassembly reference.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork; avoid hammering on the ball joint to prevent damage.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns noted earlier, then remove the old part.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the marked position (or match the turn count) and tighten the jam nut to the specified torque.
- Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the castle nut or securing nut to the manufacturer's torque specification and install a new cotter pin if required.
- If the new part is greasable, apply grease to the fitting until the boot shows movement or as specified. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after replacement to ensure proper steering geometry and prevent uneven tire wear.
