Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts, raise vehicle with jack, and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the front outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle connected to the inner tie rod.
- Mark the exposed threads and count the turns to preserve alignment, or measure distance to a reference point.
- Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod, then unscrew the old tie rod end from the inner tie rod using an adjustable wrench.
- Screw the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same number of turns or measured distance as removed. Tighten the jam nut to secure.
- Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, torque the castle nut to vehicle specification, and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to spec.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed promptly to ensure correct toe settings and prevent tire wear.
