Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the affected side.
- Locate the outer tie rod end connecting the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod/tie rod assembly.
- Mark the position of the old tie rod on the threaded portion (count turns or measure) to preserve alignment settings.
- Loosen the jam nut that secures the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod, then remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut on the tie rod stud.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Remove the nut and extract the old tie rod end.
- Thread the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the previously recorded position. Tighten the jam nut against the new tie rod end.
- Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to the manufacturer-specified torque. Install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure correct toe settings and avoid premature tire wear.
