Outer tie rod end (right/left hand) designed for 1975–1981 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac models. This steering linkage component secures the steering rack to the steering knuckle, translating steering wheel input into front wheel movement while maintaining alignment geometry. Built to restore safe, precise steering feel and reduce play, it is an ideal replacement for worn or damaged outer tie rod ends during suspension or steering system restoration. Durable construction and a standard tapered stud and female thread ensure reliable fitment and long service life.
Features:
- Fits 1975–1981 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac vehicles (outer tie rod end, right/left hand).
- Outer tie rod end for steering linkage — secures steering knuckle to inner tie rod and maintains alignment.
- Durable metal construction with corrosion-resistant finish for long-lasting reliability.
- Tapered stud and threaded socket for secure, factory-style fit and straightforward replacement.
- Reduces steering play and vibration, restoring precise steering response and improving safety.
- Suitable for restoration projects and routine suspension/steering maintenance or repair.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, set parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, lift the vehicle with a jack, and securely support it on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle and mark the position of the old tie rod on the inner tie rod with a marker to preserve alignment as much as possible.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod that secures the outer tie rod end.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or nut on the tapered stud. Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns it was installed, counting turns or following your marks to retain alignment.
- Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the previously marked position. Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod end to secure it.
- Install the tapered stud into the steering knuckle, tighten to the manufacturer-recommended torque, and insert a new cotter pin if required.
- Grease the new tie rod end if it has a grease fitting, following the part’s lubrication recommendations.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
- After installation, have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
